individual work final

Individual work

Description of work done

The individual work I did was to make a low poly environment for hand held games, at first the only thing that was needed to do was the research and that was just looking at pictures and saving them for inspiration. Then after that when there was enough ideas to make a plan, a plan was drawn down on a printed off piece of paper with a street layout and picked from the internet. After the plan was fished and it was clear what’s going to be where it was time for modelling. When modelling the street there was slight pauses on modelling because there had to be explaining on what you did to get what had been made and they had to be back up by screen shots and rendered pictures. When making all that was done in the plan when modelling the work there was polygon count limits which limited how well the street could be so the plans were changed so there would be fewer polies so the polygon count would be low enough for the assignment given. When saving all that had been modelled they were saved in stages so that the person marking the work when handed in would be able to see the progress of the work done from the first stage save to the final stage save.

Reflection and Issues Identified

Strengths

The research that was done was strength because it was enjoying doing and it helped the work that was made even better than what was it was going to be

The modelling of the street that was done because it was enjoying and everything that was done was made better that that expected.

The written work about what was done in the modelling stage because it was done well and was very descriptive about what was done in 3d max when the modelling stage was being done.

The texturing was a strength to me because it was enjoying because it was made in Photoshop by me using another picture which was picked from the internet and referenced in the word document that described what was done. Then changing it that picture that was collected with the tools in Adobe Photoshop, then after that was done they were saved as Jpegs then has a Targa file for unreal which is where the models will have to be exported in after they were completed with the model of the low poly vehicle that was made in the other assignment the was done before this one.

Weaknesses

The weakness of this assignment was the organising of the files because they were being saved all over the show on every computer that was being used when this assignment was given and it wasn’t a smart thing to do because things kept getting lost and it didn’t help when the time came where it was needed to be on the disk because it was a bit confusing to burn on and hand out on the disk that was there and it wasn’t even clear if the files that were exported and saved in unreal would load up because they were on the disk but every time open in unreal they never came up and had to be loaded back in the software. Which made another problem because the person marking the assignment would be confused because the file were badly named and there were lots of them on the disk and most of them was for spares which didn’t needed to be put on the disk and that was because assignment was rushed so it would be on time.

The timing was a weakness because it was hard to keep up when spending a lot of the class time looking at one demonstration of what to do on the assignment then having to learn outside class and do the work at the same time.

Opportunities

What would be done again is that there would be less time modelling and even lesser time UV mapping the models for texturing because this time there was confusion to how it would be done even though it was shown in the class once it’s hard to keep up when trying to model in the class and now it’s been learned it would be too hard to do now so it wouldn’t take that long even though we didn’t really have enough time to do a lot because of how short the dead line was.

There would be no files not named properly because that lesson has been learned and there will be no missing files because there will be only one source of saving so that there’s no chance of the file go missing and they have to be made again which takes more time up and that doesn’t help anyone. There would also be no more baldy named files because that’s very bad because the files are hard to find which makes everything harder because sometime the file that have been begin made can never be found and then they have to be made again so naming the files saves a lot of time.

Threats

The biggest threat was the time given because it was four week if remembered correctly and it was very hard to do all that in so very little time it was in for the dead line and there was only one class a week which made it very hard to learn a lot in because they were never any videos to watch on how things were done and just demonstrations which are hard to follow when doing the work for the assignment that needed to be handed in. Another threat was that there was no known site to go on to learn the stuff because there wasn’t any recommended to remember and the only one that was used for help was you tube and they wasn’t that good because they told me how to do things but they was descriptive enough.

One big threat is that most of the work that had to be done was it be done at home which would have been fine but back then there wasn’t a computer for there to be any work to be made on because the computer that currently using at home came half way through the assignment because it was clear it would be needed for this assignment and all the other to come.

Plan of Action

In this assignment the goals would be first to collect all the research that will be needed for the ideas for the plan then make the plan until the layout and everything was clear in what needed to be made and how it will be made then after that the modelling will be the next goal and the writing what was done while taking the renders and screen shots. Then the next goal would be to look for the textures that will be used for the models in 3d max by using the internet for referenced images. After that the texture will be put into the Photoshop and change by using the tools into to make suitable images for my models. Then the next goal would be to UV unwrap the models so that the model images can be textured properly on the model and aligned correctly, and then use that image to texture the model by adding it into 3d max material editor and assigning it to the models that have been made. Also to make sure that all of the work that has been done in that 3d max has been described in a word document with screen shots that help people tell how things have been done in 3d max better while taking renders and saving stages of the models.

Completion / Review / Conclusion.

Completion

The assignment was done to the best of the ability but it wasn’t very organised, but it was enjoyable to do even though everything was rushed. The model of the street was the best outcome because it was better than expected from the ideas found.

Review

The assignment model was good and the how it was done was weld described and there was many renders of the model and screen shots but the disk that was given made the work look bad and messy because it was rushed because of the time that was given and there was so much to do. This would make the marks go down and would have given me a bad grading for the assignment given.

Conclusion

The assignment was hard for the time given in but there was lots learned from it and it was enjoyable in some parts and too much to Handel in the other parts of it. The assignment that was done was properly marked low but it doesn’t matter because of how much that was learned for the experience it tort which means now because of this experience that was learned from this assignment the more capable and the more learning you take in.

Individual work

Description of work done

When I was doing the referencing work I had to pick three subjects from five, so after a while I finished my decision which were Fuzzy logic in racing AI, Behaviour (“behaviour”) trees and hierarchical A*.

Then after that I had to find three articles for Fuzzy logic in racing AI and three more each for Behaviour (“behaviour”)trees and hierarchical A*,so I started with Fuzzy and I found one of the articles from an article site that had books, PDFs, articles and other published information.

Then after I had finished finding the information I had to write down the first name/initials, year when it had been published, the edition number, the title of the book, the place it was published from and the publisher’s name or names depending if there was more than one person who published the book, article and ect.

After that I had to copy the internet link and paste it into Microsoft word so the tutor could look at the link that I had found for him if he wanted to look at it.

After that I had to get another two articles, then all the other articles from the other topics and collect the information and links so I could collect more information for my referencing so I kept trying lots of sites until I got them all.

Reflection and Issues Identified

Strengths

I think that collecting the information was one of my strengths because I did it better that I thought and I got some good information and I collected it faster than I expected because I thought it was going to take me longer than a day which I did it in.

Weaknesses

I think my weakness was that when I wrote the information down because I didn’t put it down properly but it wasn’t a problem because my tutor shown me how to do it properly which didn’t take long because all I had to do was get rid of the bullet points and put it in paragraphs.

Opportunities

I think that I made the most of my Opportunities because I used my pen drive to store my document on and used the document on my lap top at home so I would do the work at home and I did my work ahead of the time I had left.

Threats

I don’t think I had any big threats only that when I started looking for the books, articles, PDFs and ect I couldn’t find any of the right links and I couldn’t figure it out but after a while after I kept trying I started finding links after links and it didn’t take as long as I thought it would.

Plan of Action

Specific

My specific goal was to get my work done ahead of time which wasn’t too hard because I’ve got my pen drive and my lap top.

Measurable

My measurable goal to complete was just to do the work has quickly has I could but I think I was trying to get it done for four days and I done it in one.

Achievable

My goal was achievable because I did have the resources to do it because I had the university to go to and I had a lap top at home and I had a pen drive to store it so I would always have it on me so I could always work on it.

Realistic

I think my goal was realistic because it was achievable in the time I could do it because I have lots of resources.

Timely

My goal was done for the due in date because I did it well before the time because I had lots of resources and I did the work the next day after it was given to me.

Completion / Review / Conclusion.

I think that I did well because I did all my work faster than I thought I would because I used my lap top and pen drive so I could do my work at home so I wouldn’t be struggling for time, and because I planned all my work ahead of time because I didn’t want to bring it in late so it would be done for it to be due in on the day. I think the only thing I didn’t do well on is the way I wrote it down but I was corrected and I have corrected my work because I was told what to do off my tutor. I think that it wasn’t has hard as I thought it was at the beginning because I couldn’t find anything because I didn’t look properly and until I kept trying and trying didn’t know you have to really look for the sites and kept trying and trying and going deeper and deeper in the internet so that you find something.

Learning pattern

I have learned that my learning style is reflector from your learning document that is the first link on the sixth week and a reflector is:

REFLECTOR ( Reflective Observation)

  • focuses on understanding the meaning of situations and ideas by careful observation and description
  • approaches learning in an impartial, tentative way
  • seeks understanding as opposed to practical application
  • good at seeing implications, at appreciating different points of view.
  • patent, impartial, thoughtful

I have learned from the other learning style document then I a visual which is;

Someone with a Visual learning style has a preference for seen or observed things, including pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, handouts, films, flip-chart, etc. These people will use phrases such as ‘show me’, ‘let’s have a look at that’ and will be best able to perform a new task after reading the instructions or watching someone else do it first. These are the people who will work from lists and written directions and instructions.

I have learnt that I am better at learning with my eyes to understand how to do things by doing practical or observational things. I have understood which way I learn best in and how I can use thing way to better my skills.

useabily assignment

Description of the work done

The game what was tested on wasn't though of straight away and it took three weeks into the assignment until it was decided on. Then there was research on academic papers on the usability of games which only took about a week but it helped give clear idea on how to test the game.

Then there was a lot of planning to consider for the test so a test plan was done and when the test plan was getting planned the game was Tekkcen 5 was decided on and then it was deside on where it was going to be tested on and then what we was going to give to the subjects for the test.

Then there was the subject test objective sheet which was for the subjects to do Challenges on the game to test its usability.

Then there was the subject instruction sheet which was for instructions on how to use the subject test sheets.

Then there was consent forms to prove that the subjects wanted to be tested on.

Then there was the subject questionnaire which was for the subjects to state what type of gamer they are and to state if they have ever played  fighting games as well as their name and age so we would know a bit about the subjects to take account if they had more of an advantage when the game was being testing.

Then there was the entry question which was for the subjects to write down if they had a problem in the game while they was testing in it because it will make the test more clear if the subjects write down any reports and problems if any.

Then there was the exit questionnaire which was for the subjects to write down there answer for the feedback of the test so they could explain what they couldn't do and what they could do so that information could be used as feedback for the test.

Then there was the observation logs which was used for the observer to use to  write down anything that the subject found too hard or too easy and see if there were any patterns in the test test.

Then there was the in test questionnaires sheets which was for the subject the write down any of the objectives they couldn't do or had too much trouble doing them.

It took about four weeks for it all to be thought of and then after that there was a lot of written work so the subject could use the questionnaires done on about how the test was going to be done. then the game was tested on five people and all five people gave feedback from the test after that there was a lecture about the test done where the feedback information was told.

reflect and issues

strengths
planning of the questionnaires, testing and keeping record with the diary because the subjects gave back good feedback from the game being tested, the testing chose of the game because it shown its usability well and the recording of the assignment because it kept notice of the time left and what was done. the testing was a strength because it was done well without any problems with the subject and it was organised with the questionnaires and the game worked well for usability and the subject were perfect because they wanted to test the game.
researching because it wasn't too hard for finding and because it helped the testing of the game.

weaknesses
the timing of the assignment was going well but it took too long for the planning of the game because of how long it took the game to be tested on to be though of and decided on.

the presentation didn't go well because it wasn't practised and no one knew what to say because we didn't do any planning on saying anything because of the timing it took for everything to do we ran out of time in the presentation.

opportunities
if I was to do this again I would use my time more wisely because you can do assignment with better results if your not rushing and not under stress from hand in dates.

threats
the biggest threat was the timing because has soon has I did the test and wrote it up there wasn't any time for the practising for the lecture and there was no notes only on the screen which don't help a lot because in a presentation you want to face the viewers

plan of action
a dairy was made to track all what was done and what date they was done on. I made sure that I knew if I needed to catch up on something for to proceed onwards to my goal because I would leave what I needed to do as a title on the top of a new page in my book on a fresh piece of paper underlined and in large letters. the dairy helped tell me how long I took and how much was left to do which helped the process of the assignment.
The assignment was accomplished in little bits because every bit that was accomplished got the assignment closer to the testing and lecturing so it wasn't too hard to complete.

completion/review/conclusion

completion
the test went well and the subject gave good feedback from the game that was tested. all of the questionnaires help the feedback and the information given made sense. everything was planned well because nothing went wrong in the test  and everything has been recorded in my diary so the process wouldn't be forgotten.
